In addition to voting for candidates down party lines, Texas Republican voters will also vote “yes” or “no” on 13 propositions in the 2024 Primary Ballots. This is for the Republicans only, and there are no Democrat propositions. Yet, they are allowed to vote on the Republican ballot AND propositions in the Primary Elections.
The 2024 Republican Propositions are intended to provide guidance for the 2024-2025 Republican Party Platform which is refined or altered at the 2024 Texas State Convention. They are then prioritized by the County delegates. Then, the “top eight proposals” become the Republican Platform. Subsequently, the Texas 89th Legislative Session will adopt many of the Republican Platform proposals.
Texas Legislatures have already begun to file bills in hopes of getting prioritized in the 89th Legislative Session. Senate. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced that his top policy priority will be Senate Bill 2, which is expected to propose a program that lets families use tax dollars to pay for their children’s private schooling.
